BioPearl™ microspheres are resorbable drug-eluting microspheres that represent an advancement in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Indicated for embolization of blood vessels supplying hypervascular primary tumors or metastases in the liver.​

BioPearl™ microspheres undergo resorption within the vasculature over time. As they degrade, physiological blood flow is progressively restored. This could offer the possibility for repeated chemoembolizations or other intra-arterial procedures.​

BioPearl™ microspheres are compatible with Doxorubicin, Epirubicin, and Idarubicin, which can be loaded prior to embolization and then, as a secondary action, elute a local, controlled, and sustained dose to the tumor after embolization.1  ​

Note: When used for drug loading, drug loading should be done under a physician’s direction, choice and responsibility, based on type and dose of drug most beneficial to the patient.1

Liver function is a critical determinant of survival in patients with HCC undergoing TACE4. Despite the use of well-established chemoembolization techniques, hepatic injury and insufficiency remain the most frequently observed adverse effects5. Maintaining liver function during and after HCC TACE procedures is essential to preserve the possibility of potential follow-up interventions, including surgery, systemic therapy, or other intra-arterial locoregional treatments6.
