Continuous degradation process1
Embolic effect2
Sustained chemotherapeutic drug release3
BioPearl™ microspheres undergo resorption within the vasculature over time. As they degrade, physiological blood flow is progressively restored. This could offer the possibility for repeated chemoembolizations or other intra-arterial procedures.
BioPearl™ microspheres are compatible with Doxorubicin, Epirubicin, and Idarubicin, which can be loaded prior to embolization and then, as a secondary action, elute a local, controlled, and sustained dose to the tumor after embolization.1
Note: When used for drug loading, drug loading should be done under a physician’s direction, choice and responsibility, based on type and dose of drug most beneficial to the patient.1
As resorbable drug-eluting microspheres, BioPearl™ microspheres have been designed to allow progressive blood flow restoration2, thereby could be retaining the potential for subsequent interventions.
BioPearl™ microspheres enable:
- Continuous degradation driven by an aqueous environment1.
- Restoration of blood flow1: Designed to allow progressive blood flow restoration.
Therapeutic efficacy has been demonstrated in pre-clinical studies1 and is supported by early clinical experience.7
Chemoembolization with Sustained Drug Release4
When loaded with chemotherapeutic agents such as Doxorubicin, BioPearl™ microspheres demonstrate a similar elution profile as LifePearl™ microspheres4.
Restoration of blood flow over time:
- Patient: 57-year-old man, HCV-positive, BCLC B
- Tumour: Three nodules in liver segments VI, VIII, IV
- Treatment: BioPearl™ microspheres loaded with Doxorubicin
Embolic effect:
- Patient: 72-year-old male with NASH, BCLC A stage HCC
- Tumour: Single 4 cm lesion
- Treatment: BioPearl™ microspheres loaded with Doxorubicin
