​Since June 2024, the nearly 2,000 solar panels have been actively generating renewable electricity on-site, reinforcing the company’s dedication to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, since 2021, the site has sourced 100% of its electricity from certified green energy providers.
 
The solar panels involve a 1-million-euro investment and have a total capacity equaling the energy consumption of 270 households, which is 940 MWh/year.

In addition to expanding renewable energy use, Terumo Europe continues to optimize its operations by upgrading heating, ventilation and airconditioning systems, replacing energy-intensive equipment with eco-friendly alternatives, and improving compressor efficiency. These efforts have already resulted in substantial energy savings.
 
The move toward on-site renewable generation marks another important milestone in Terumo’s global ambition to achieve carbon neutrality (Scope 1 and 2) by 2040.
 
“We’re also proud of the sustainable design of our rented European Distribution Center in Genk, where solar panels can meet 100% of the facility’s electricity needs on sunny days,” added Houf.
