Benefits of single-catheter strategy with Optitorque™ Universal Shapes

Tiger I, Tiger II, BLK, Jacky & Sarah are radial universal curves that enable angiography of both right and left coronary arteries using a single catheter.

Compared to a traditional two-catheter strategy, Optitorque™’s universal shapes provide similar procedural success rate for angiographic procedures, while bringing additional benefits for patients, operators and for the hospital.

Similar procedural success compared to 2-catheter strategy1

In this study, completion rate of the diagnostic procedure for left and right coronary arteries, without clinical complication, was identical for single-catheter strategy using Tiger II or traditional two-catheter strategy.

Procedural success was defined by the completion of the procedure without clinical complication, including

  • the need for surgical correction of the vascular access site,
  • permanent neurologic deficit
  • or procedurally related Q-wave or non Q-wave myocardial infarction
  • or death

Similar technical success & failure rates compared to 2-catheter strategy2

In this study, single-catheter strategy using Tiger II and traditional two-catheter strategy had similar failure rates leading to either catheters change or access site change to achieve completion of the procedure.

Catheter failure was defined as the need for study catheter change and/or access site change for completion of Coronary Angiography

Reduced risk of spasm compared to 2-catheter strategy2

In this study, single-catheter strategy using Tiger II enabled 83.8% of patients to not experience spasm during their angiographic procedure. Overall, Tiger II significantly lowered the occurrence of spasm, including mild, moderate and severe spasm, compared to traditional two-catheter strategy.

Shorter diagnostic procedures compared to 2-catheter strategy2

In this study, single-catheter strategy using Tiger II significantly shortened fluoroscopy time, as well as angiographic time by more than a minute, compared to traditional two-catheter strategy.

Less contrast media used compared to 2-catheter strategy2

In this study, single-catheter strategy using Tiger II significantly reduced the contrast media volume used for diagnostic procedures, compared to traditional two-catheter strategy. Limited exposure to contrast lowers the risk of contrast induced nephropathy3, which is associated with long hospital stay, marked increase in morbidity and mortality.

Procedural cost reduction compared to 2-catheter strategy3

In this study, single-catheter strategy using Tiger I reduced the procedural cost by 13%, thanks to shorter procedure, using less contrast media & less spasmolytic drugs.
