Next generation safety catheters

The Surshield™ Versatus I.V. Catheter with Protector allows to completely close the needle, in order to prevent accidental needle stick injuries when disposing of the intravenous cannula. Using a safety catheter does not require any change in the insertion technique.

Sharps protection for healthcare workers provides an important tool in the healthcare setting. The use of safety devices has been proven beneficial in the prevention of sharps injuries in the hospital and healthcare sector.1,2

See and feel the difference

The improved white safety block shows 65% less detachment resistance (compared to previous version3) when removing it from the catheter hub.

A lower detachment force means less resistance in the separation between the safety mechanism and the catheter hub, so that this final step is less difficult and more comfortable for the patient. Achieve extra safety without changing your habits.

The improved safety device:

  • activates passively while extracting the needle - Easy to use
  • fully covers the tip of the needle ensuring effective protection - Safe
  • has no metal parts potentially scratching and contaminating - Convenient
  • ensures that blood is contained within the device avoiding possible cross contamination - Hygienic

Patented safety mechanism with double protection

  • reduces the risk of accidental needle sticks
  • avoids any blood contamination

General specifications

Special tip design for smooth and less painful vein-puncture

  • Conical tip shape facilitates insertion.
  • Optimal gap distance between catheter and bevel.
  • Triple sharpened and back cut bevel needle minimizes pain to the patient.

Thin walled design allows down-sizing

  • A larger internal lumen gives better flow rates than regular walled catheters at same gauge size. Down-sizing means less mechanical irritation and insertion trauma for the patient.
