Letter from Terumo Corporation President Shintaku

3/28/2011 - Tokyo, Japan

Dear Valued Customers,

As you have seen in the media, Japan is now managing an extremely difficult and historically
unparalleled situation. Meanwhile, the aid, support and messages we continue to receive from
people around the world have been strongly encouraging. On behalf of the Japanese people, we
would like to express our sincere gratitude for your support and warm wishes.

To help lessen the suffering of those affected by the disaster, Terumo Corporation has maintained a
stable supply of medical devices to the affected areas and has donated cash and medical products
including leg compression stockings to prevent deep vein thrombosis, high-calorie nutritious foods,
and blood pressure monitors. In addition, as Terumo associates are taking initiatives in enormous
and unified efforts to maintain operations and support to the affected area, it is reassuring that we
carry out our social responsibilities under this difficult situation.

We are glad to inform you of that our associates are safe and that there was no major damage to our
Tokyo headquarters or factories in Japan. As our factories are located in Shizuoka and Yamanashi
prefectures, where are approximately 300 kilometers from Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant, as the
environmental radioactive level measured every six hours by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology - Japan (MEXT), remain below its standards in these two prefectures, they
have already resumed manufacturing operations without fear of radioactive contamination. For
further information by MEXT, please refer to their homepage:
http://www.mext.go.jp/english/radioactivity_level/detail/1303986.htm

While the planned power outages instituted by Tokyo Electric Power Corporation to compensate for
the shutdown of Fukushima Daiichi Plant and potential curtailments to the supply of raw materials
have a certain level of impact upon our manufacturing operation, all of our factories are working
together to diminish the effect through various initiatives such as improving in-house power
generation capability and coordinating with factories around the world, including factories in the
United States and some European and Asian countries.

Under any circumstances, our priority is to maintain high product quality and stable product supply.
As a leading global medical device manufacturer that distributes products to over 160 countries, and
with pride born from the corporate philosophy, “Contributing to Society through Healthcare,” we will
continue our efforts to minimize the effect of the crisis in Japan on our customers worldwide.

We truly appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time.

Sincerely yours,

Yutaro Shintaku
